Every time I see & hear the opening number of "On The Town", I break up with laughter! When I was a kid in NY, WINS radio station would always cut to commercial and play the excerpt of this opening number "New York, New York" As you know, it was one of New York's many theme songs and by the time I was a kid, writers substituted "wonderful town" with "helluva town". Anyway, the commercials were only 30 second spots. So, well after the commercial ended, I would continue my version & do Gene's part of the number verbatim (even the hand gestures)! I had all the older people just looked completely puzzled at how I knew this old musical. What a "wannabe" performer I was back then but it's cool memory!

Great choice. I think this is the greatest opening, and the greatest opening number, in the history of film musicals. A phenomenal opening to the second best musical in Gene's oeuvre

  • Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you
