Summer Stock (1950): Nightmare, Blur, Piece of Crap

“We had to babysit Judy all through the film; I would take her left arm and the director would take her right and between us we literally tried to keep her on her feet. There were times when we had to nail down supports so she wouldn’t fall over and the whole experience was a ghastly, hideous nightmare which happily is a blur in my memory. I think we all knew Summer Stock was a piece of crap.” — Gene Kelly

Despite Garland’s (sad) issues and Kelly’s apparent disdain for the script, I’d maintain that this musical is still better than 75% of Hollywood’s current output. 🙂
