Sidney Poitier and Gene Kelly High on “Fumes”

This excerpt from Patricia Bosworth’s Jane Fonda: The Private Life of a Public Person caught my eye:

“It was a memorable [Fourth of July] party,” Jill Robinson recalled. “Andy Warhol in one corner drinking with Lauren Bacall; in another corner, Henry Fonda complaining that the music was too loud. George Cukor, holding forth about movies with Sam Spiegel and Marlon Brando. Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, all very stoned. Pot smoke thick in the air. Sidney Poitier wandered around in a daze and so did Gene Kelly. They ended up watching Natalie Wood trying to teach Nathalie Vadimhow to tap dance.”

Oh, to be a fly on the wall…
